 Watch Nicole throw a classic vase shape in this video. She's currently teaching Wednesday evenings from 7pm-9pm and Saturdays from 10:30-12:30. We also have adult ceramics classes Thursdays from 1-3 and Thursdays 7pm-9pm. Kids' classes are on Thursdays 4pm-5:30pm and Sunday 11am-12:30pm. It's not too late to enroll for our first class term.

Yonkers Peace Pottery Studio, Westchester, Riverdale, Woodlawn, Bronx New York Pottery Ceramic Classes, Adults and Children

Our pottery classes start this week. We hope you'll be joining us!
 
Please call or email us register for a pottery class, please choose the class day and time that best fits your schedule for the entire session. We will adding classes to our roster as the studio grows, so please check back often.

Adult Classes

  • Meet weekly for 8 sessions, unless noted otherwise.
  • Cost is $240
  • Low cost includes clay, glazes, project storage*, open studio practice time** (encouraged)
  • Missed classes may be made up within the term. NO EXCEPTIONS. NO REFUNDS after class begins.
  • Firing fees are 4-cents/cubic inch
  • Bring your own tools or purchase at the studio.
  • Wear appropriate clothing, bring apron. Clay is messy!
  • Bring a towel
Wheel Throwing and Hand-building (all levels) - To best grasp the wide range of possibilities there are in working with clay we offer mixed-activity classes. The instructors will teach many skills and techniques to create simple and complex ceramic forms, including pinch, slab, coil, sculpting/modeling .  Various throwing projects, glazing and surface techniques will be explored. Students will learn to use studio equipment including the slab roller, extruder and wheel to make mugs, bowls, plates, teapots and more! A small group size ensures individual guidance.

Children's Pottery and Ceramics Classes

  • Meet weekly for 8 sessions, unless noted otherwise.
  • Cost is $240
  • Includes clay, glazes, tools, shelf storage, firing fees, everything provided
  • Missed classes may be made up within the term. NO EXCEPTIONS. NO REFUNDS after class begins.
Students learn handbulding techniques from pinch pots to coils, slabs, and sculpture. Older students can also experiment with the wheel.

Centered on the art of ceramics and clay, Yonkers Peace Pottery Studio, located in the vibrant Park Hill neighborhood on McLean Avenue, is a community pottery craft center and school serving the lower Hudson River Valley and Westchester County, Riverdale, Bronx, and northern Manhattan, New York City.

Encouraging a warm and relaxed environment to inspire creativity, community, and regard for art and fine handcrafts, we offer a full roster of handbuilding, sculpture, wheel throwing classes for beginner to advanced students, as well as pottery birthday parties (for children and adults), corporate team building sessions, special topic workshops, adult socials, and studio space rental for experienced clay artists.

Our storefront shop is stocked with fine handmade stoneware and porcelain home decor, garden, jewelry goods and gifts, and other unique handcrafts from local artisans, like natural soaps and carved wood serving utensils.

Corporate Events, Adult Birthday Parties, Bridal Showers:
Improve problem-solving skills and imagination while building team morale and relationships while  creating a chosen project out of clay in a two hour workshop or party. This is a fun way to bring folks together and create a memorable moment or just take everyone out of the office for a half day team booster. We will introduce participants to basic hand building techniques and encouraged them to use creative thinking by completing a three dimensional hand building project.

Cost: $35/person for 2-hour session

Childrens  Birthday Parties:
Unleash your child's creativity with our fun and educational Clay Birthday Parties! The kids will hand-build and glaze one exciting clay project! The birthday child chooses a project ahead of time, and then the children spend the first 1 1/2 hours of this 2 hour party creating the clay project. The last half hour is reserved for food. Parents provide food/drinks, plates, cups, etc... and supervise the children while they are eating.Your child can choose in advance the project they would like to make from a list of available project ideas or feel free to propose your own idea and we'll see if we can make it happen. Tuition is $300 for a 2 hour class for up to 12 students. Party includes a 1 ½ hour clay project, plus ½ hour for food and drink. Parents must  provide paper goods (table cloth, plates, forks, napkins, cups) and drinks. Pizza and/or cake can be arranged for an extra fee. $200 deposit due at time of registration, with remainder due the day of the party. (Deposits are refundable minus $25 cancellation fee up to 48 hours prior to the party.) All clay project materials and firing fees are included. Class Prices:
  • Introductory/trial one-time class = $40 (information & registration for trial classes here)
  • 6 classes = $174 ($29/class - expires 2 months from purchase date)
  • 10 classes = $270 ($27/class - expires 3 months from purchase date)
  • 15 classes = $390 ($26/class - expires 4 months from purchase date)
  • 20 classes = $500 ($25/class - expires 5 months from purchase date)
  • Special project workshops = $60 - $150
Firing Fees:
Current firing fees for students are 4-cents/cubic inch and cover bisque AND glaze firing, plus all materials EXCEPT underglazes, which are an additional charge (when used) of $1.00/piece.

Class Description: 
ALL of our classes are mixed-level (novice to experienced) and include pottery wheel and hand-building ceramics instruction. We all learn from one another! Students can execute their own project ideas or can ask teachers for project ideas.

Hand-building methods taught include pinching, coiling, slabbing, sculpting/modeling, extruding and more. On the potter's wheel you will learn, with lots of practice, to make cups, bowls, vases, plates and even composite pieces like teapots.

Please make sure to bring:
  • An apron (or wear clothing you don't mind dirtying). Making pottery is messy business.
  • A towel you don't mind dirtying
  • Pottery-Making Tools
  • Masking tape, on which you will shut tight your wrapped drying pieces and write your name, so they're always easily findable
  • If you have it, the studio is always in need of clean dry cleaner's clothing plastic covers. We wrap our drying projects in plastic. If you don't have this DON'T WORRY. We will have some on hand for you.

Yonkers Peace Pottery Studio will be opening on McLean Avenue September, 2013! Classes and parties for adults and children in ceramics instruction, all classes are appropriate for beginner to experienced potters. Classes are on a rolling basis, no end or beginning to a term. You can buy class packages in different amounts.
